FANUC America Corporation (FAC) provides the most complete range of industry-leading robotics, CNC and motion control systems, and ROBODRILL machining centers. We are currently searching for a dynamic, Regional Application Engineer – Software & Controls to be responsible for functioning as a technical liaison between FAC internal teams, and external integrators and end users in the assigned territory - Western Michigan (preferably based in Ottawa/Kent County).  The Engineer will utilize their software and controls expertise to manage, organize, and administer high-level support to customers, and assist FANUC District Managers with various sales support requests to enable continued regional unit and profit growth.  

This position focuses on increasing General Industry (GI) bookings and profit growth and driving a strong commitment to customer satisfaction through team collaboration.  The ideal candidate is customer-focused problem-solver with a “Service First” mindset who has a background in automation and/or robotics engineering.  

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, train and strengthen technical skills with customers (ASIs and End-Users) in the Michigan Industrial Region (MIR). 
  • Work with sales to set up regularly scheduled visits to key Western Michigan ASIs. 
  • Develop a deep understanding of the ASI’s products, customers, goals, organization, and business strategies. 
  • Become proficient on CRX product and conduct “hands on” demonstrations and training as required. 
  • Use learned knowledge to develop a list of robot models, hardware, and software options that would be best enhance ASI offerings and/or meet customer application needs. 
  • Promote the use of ROBOGUIDE, Payload Checker, and other pre-engineering tools. 
  • Support the MIR Sales team and ASIs with ROBOGUIDE simulations. 
  • Track emergency phone calls and support requests and use this information to provide targeted training. 
  • Identify competitor units onsite at customers and obtain as much information (competitor, model, end user, etc.) and report back. 
  • Provide emergency tech support when needed. 
  • Provide “paid/contract” engineering support when needed. 
  • Support joint sales/support calls as organized by local DM’s 
  • Work with sales to identify and visit key, new, or competitor ASI and end user accounts in the region and strengthen relationships with engineering, management and ownership.
  • Schedule in person presentations and technical reviews of the applicable hardware and software options that match their needs. 
  • Discuss and present other available FANUC ASI services (free-training, integrator support hotline, Central Office Support role, segment resources, customer service, etc.) 
  • Document which items/options are presented and discussed with each ASI., compare and review past and future option orders to evaluate changes and growth, and use this as a planning tool to determine what new topics should be presented.
  • Continually follow-up with the DM(s) in the area to collect anecdotal feedback. 
  • Frequent follow-up with the ASI’s leadership and engineering staff to collect additional feedback. 
  • Track growth of exclusive ASIs 
  • Provide “extra attentive” treatment to selected competitor ASIs to break down technical and support barriers that may be perceived in changing to FANUC. 

Ideal candidate will have the following experience and education:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.  
  • Experience with customer interface and communications in a sales and/or engineering capacity. 
  • Knowledge of engineering and automation disciplines.   
  • Basic FANUC Robot Programming experience.  
  • Adept at utilizing ROBOGUIDE and 3D CAD. 
  • Engineering experience in automation and/or robotics.  
  • Experience with FANUC iRVision. 
  • Familiarity and experience with ROBOGUIDE. 
  • Fundamental understanding of FANUC product catalog and applications.
